Product Details

The MC-1D is a steerable paratrooper parachute, developed from the MC-1C, which itself evolved from the 1988 U.S. Army-designed MC-1B canopy. It is primarily used for pre-planned jumps requiring precise soft landings in small target areas.

MC-1C/D Characteristics

Both models feature a parabolic shape with a 35-foot (10.7-meter) diameter. The canopy is crafted from 1.1-ounce, Type I low-porosity tear-resistant nylon fabric, with vent cords made from Type II nylon rope. They include 30 suspension lines (Type II nylon rope) measuring 6.7 meters from the connector link to the lower webbing.

Key performance specs:

Model Differences

  • MC-1C: Standard configuration, using low-porosity canopy fabric (PIA-C-44378).

  • MC-1D: Equipped with a new universal static line featuring static line snaps.

Additional Information

The base canopy of both models shares design roots with the MC-1B but includes key updates from 1993, 1995, and 1996:

  • Fabric porosity adjusted to 0.5-5.0 CFM.

  • Orifice design revised: 17 orifices across 11 of the 30 canopy seams (Seams 4 and 26 each have 3 openings).

  • Orifices on Seams 4 and 26 reinforced with transverse tape between large orifices’ upper edges and new small openings’ lower edges.

  • Shorter 22-foot suspension lines on rear canopy ropes (8 per rope, vs. 7 previously).

  • Shorter 25-foot control ropes.

  • 11-3/4-inch bag straps (replacing 8-3/4-inch ones).

  • All materials in U.S. Army Color 504 (foliage green).

  • Zigzag reinforcing stitches (≈30 inches of suspension line) added to main seams 6-25 (orifice areas only).

  • Radial webbing cut length shortened by 2-1/4 inches (to 17 feet) for better fabric fullness along main seams.

  • Reinforcement straps added under each tie line inside the canopy (Main Seams 5&6; 25&26).

  • Zigzag stitches on designated main seams enhance tear resistance.

These changes result in a fast-opening canopy with a descent speed of 4-5 ft/s and improved maneuverability (forward drive).
