The G-12 is a 64-foot (19.5-meter) cargo parachute assembly, primarily designed to decelerate and stabilize large-platform airdropped cargo.

Series Characteristics
It features a flat circular shape with a nominal diameter of 64 feet (19.5 meters). The ribs are constructed from 2.25-ounce nylon parachute fabric. The assembly includes 64 suspension lines, made from material with a 1,000-pound (450 kg) tensile strength, each measuring 51 feet (15.5 meters) in length. It also has 2 suspension sling assemblies, each 60 feet (18.28 meters) long. The total assembly weight is 125 pounds (57 kg), with a maximum load capacity of 2,200 pounds (997.9 kg).

Pilot Chute
The pilot chute has a flat octagonal shape with a nominal diameter of 68 inches (1727 mm). Its canopy is made from 1.1-ounce PIA-C-7020 Type I tear-resistant nylon parachute fabric.

Model Differences
The G-12D and G-12E differ in rigging:

  • G-12D: No center line.

  • G-12E: Equipped with a center line for canopy top vent control.

For G-12E:

  • 1 parachute: Minimum 501 lbs (227 kg), Maximum 2,200 lbs (997.9 kg)

  • 2 parachutes: Minimum 2,270 lbs (1,029.7 kg), Maximum 3,500 lbs (1,587.5 kg)


Note: Suspended weight = total assembly weight minus the weight of the cargo parachute.

Additional Information
The G-12 can be used alone or in groups (two or more) based on cargo weight. Deployment is possible from a minimum altitude of 475 feet AGL (144.7 meters) to 550 feet AGL (167.6 meters). In its basic form, it supports a maximum load of 2,200 pounds (1,028 kg); in pairs, this increases to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg). All materials are colored U.S. Army Foliage Green.
